Prince Charles tells doctors of the world to use alternative treatments

Herbs and holistic remedies could replace conventional therapies, the Prince of Wales will say next week

The Prince of Wales will urge doctors to start using unconventional techniques such as chiropractic, acupuncture and herbal medicines to treat serious illnesses, in a speech to the World Health Organisation next week

Prince Charles will claim that such major chronic illnesses as diabetes and heart disease, which affect tens of millions worldwide, could be successfully treated using complementary medicines and a "whole body" approach to healthcare.

His comments, which will invite fresh complaints from his critics, are to be made in a keynote address to the annual WHO Assembly in Geneva on 23 May, where the Prince will set out his case for "integrated healthcare" to a global audience for the first time.

The Prince is expected to argue that doctors should put less reliance on conventional drug-based treatments and take a more "holistic" view by putting greater emphasis on preventive healthcare, diet and healthy lifestyles.

This would help tackle endemic diseases such as strokes, heart disease and diabetes which kill 35 million people annually, and which are the cause of 80 per cent of GP referrals in the UK each year, he will say.

The Prince also believes there is proven evidence that some mental illness can be treated without anti-depressants, for example, using the herb St John's wort for post-natal depression.

Doctors and governments should be focusing on diet, environmental pollution and reducing the use of harmful chemicals in homes and farming, he will say.

HOMEOPATHIC REMEDY CASES

Arnica Montana

The causative factors of this remedy are: injuries, falls, accidents, fright, anger or excessive sexual activity. It can be given in any potency, but often the higher potencies are needed.

Case 1

A strong young man who worked for a transport company was struck by a case that fell off a delivery lorry. An edge of the case had struck him in the left lower ribs. He was doubled over with severe pain and could not help groaning.

He was given a dose of Arnica 2C on his tongue and given a few pills to take at home. He was asked to return in three days.

After three days he came to the office of the homeopath demanding the name of the remedy. The young man related that by the time he was half way home, he could straighten up and breathe much easier. By night the pain was nearly gone and the next day completely gone. He had taken two more doses.

Case 2

At a workshop held in the country a young woman had fallen and sprained her knee quite badly while walking down a hill.

She was in great pain and pleading for someone to help her.

A homeopath had some Arnica D9 which he gave her with the hope that it might help.

Half an hour later he passed by the woman who was all smiles. 'It is incredible, the pain is totally gone,' she exclaimed jubilantly. 'How is it possible with such a small pill?'

The homeopath was also a bit surprised that it had worked so well.

Case 3

A young man, aged 17, had had the first three toes on his left foot crushed and they were amputated, which left three unhealthy ulcers.

He had great pain at night and could not sleep. He had been treated in the hospital for three months with various medications, including some homeopathic ones but with no result. The next step was another amputation.

A homeopathic doctor prescribed Arnica 30C as well as a dilute Arnica dressing on the foot. This was prescribed on the symptom of 'great soreness with fear of being struck by people coming close to the bed.' Arnica does not like to be touched.

He improved immediately and could sleep again. After 19 days he was completely cured.

Case 4

After a tooth extraction, a homeopath took Arnica 200C once. After the anaesthetic had worn of there was hardly any pain. He followed in up with Staphysagria 200C, and the wound healed rapidly after a day or so.

About Arnica

Arnica is often called the boxer’s remedy. This is a very good description as it is good for all sorts of blows and should be the first remedy given in any trauma. It calms the cells and promotes healing. Mountain goats eat this plant after sustaining falls or other injuries.

Arnica is useful in falls, injuries of all sorts, after accidents, before and after surgery, for toothache, any kind of pain as a result of injury, before and after childbirth, for bruises, black eyes, emotional trauma and more.

The central idea is trauma, and often the injured person says there is nothing wrong with them. Soreness to touch is also a central theme.

Everyone should have Arnica at home in various potencies, such as 30C, 200C and 1M. In Spain you have to add an H, for example 30CH, to obtain it from a pharmacy. Higher potencies are used for more severe injuries, but any potency you have will serve.

In Spain you can obtain Arnica from any pharmacy, which is the only place to obtain homeopathic remedies from in this country. Otherwise it can be obtained by mail from Helios or Ainsworths in the UK, links to which can be found on www.homeopathy.euni.org.
